"Summer leaves appear before or at flowering, usually with have no wing and measure 30 in. (76 cm) in lenght. The trumpet shaped leaves usually have a sub erect rounded hood whose base is strongly constricted. colored green to yellow green with a diffusedred or maroon coloration in strong light. Ensiform, falcate phyllodia are usually less then 20 in. (51 cm) long. The numerous scythe-shaped phyllodia are characteristic of this species and distinguish it from S. alata and S. flava, the two species often confused with this species. These leaves are produced during late summer and fall. The flower scrape is as long as the summer leaves. Flowers are greenish yellow to yellow color and bloom from mid april to early june. The lack of order and lighter color of flower helps distinguish it from S. flava"-pg. 33 Carnivorus Plants of the World
This species is often difficult to obtain in cultivation, due to cite permits. Due to these permits, you can not send the plant, pollen, or seeds across state lines. This species looks alot like S. flava, and for a while was considered as a subsp. of flava, S. flava subsp. oreophila. due to the long dormant period needed, a short growing season, and the weedy nature of some plants, most people do not care for this species, but their are a lot of really nice clones like 'alabama', "sand hill mt", "UCB" and more.
Pic coming soon....
