Ok. I am completely new to carnivorous plants. I just got a great new wire shelf (5 tiers) and my sun shade for use outside. I live in the middle of California and the weather does not get too cold here but the temperatures get pretty hot. I am curious to how everyone else sets up their plants outside (or inside). I would love to get some ideas for making inside and outside a good and safe area for my plants to grow and flourish. I would love to see some pictures of the way other people have been successful with their plants and the way they have protected them both inside and outside. Thanks in advance.

I gat a miny green house for my birthday this year, so i use that for winter dormancy to protect the plants from the very rare cold snaps. For summer, i take the lid off, and put the shade cloth over them. I keep my plants that have really nice leaves on the other side of the yard, it gets 7 hours of direct sunlight. I keep the plants that do not have any good leaves in the greenhouse, which is where most of my plants are in mid summer, when thry are all making phyllodia. Inside, i have a couple grow lamps, where i start seeds, keep seedlings, and where i take leafand root cuttings.

That was great and it looks really simple. I would really love a greenhouse but for now all I have is a piece of sunshade and a shelf for outdoors. Another strange question, if you wouldn't mind. What exactly does a greenhouse do for these plants?

As I see it, it helps avoid extremely cold temperatures or in summer avoid the heat, specially in frosty times it helps keep the plants stable.
